Leh is a modest and beautiful settlement lying in the lap of the great and gigantic Himalayas. It is a very popular tourist destination. People from all the corners of the world come to Leh to visit the exceedingly wonderful Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.

One such monastery is the Hemis monastery. Hemis monastery was re established by King Sengge Namgyal in 1672. It is Tibetan Buddhist monastery. It is believed to have existed before the 11th century AD. Hemis monastery hosts an annual festival to honor Padmasambhava. Padmasambhava is believed to be the representative reincarnate of the Buddha. His birthday comes once in the cycle of 12 years. Extravagant celebrations are carried out in his memory. The festival takes place in a rectangular courtyard in front of the main door of the monastery. A visit to this beautiful monastery can be joyous and satisfying.

Leh also has a palace. It is called the Leh Palace. The Palace is open to the public. It is being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Leh Palace was built by King Sengge Namgyal and was once a royal residency.

The Thikse monastery is the largest monastery in central Ladakh. It is a complex of 12 storeys. The monastery houses 60 lamas. In this monastery is a huge statue of Maitreya(future Buddha). This statue is the largest such statue installed in Ladakh. Maitreya Buddha is potrayed as seated in a lotus. Over 25 villages are attached to this monastery. The Thikse monastery is the largest monastery in central Ladakh. A fee of rupees 20 is charged to for the entry into the monastery. It took 4 years to craft the statue. It was made by local artists under Master Nawang Tsering of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies. . It was crafted in clay, gold paint and copper. It is the largest such statue installed in Ladakh. There is a nunnery also in the monastery. The nunnery houses 26 nuns aged from 43 to 87. Palden Sangpo built the monastery in mid 15th century. 25 villages are attached to the monastery.

Of course, light doesn’t mean crackers or other things that have little weight for their volume. When hiking you need calories above all, so the lightest foods are those that provide the most calories for the weight. Here are some to consider, as well as two other ways to cut the weight of the meals you carry with you.

Nuts And Seeds

By far, one of the healthiest and most calorie-packed foods you can take with you are nuts and seeds. Mixed nuts, for example, typically have 170 calories per ounce, as well as the protein and amino acids you need. Sunflower seeds are similar (a bit lower in calories if raw).
